With the more general objective of contributing to the understanding of the conditions of production of so-called fake news, I mobilize the theoretical arsenal of the history of linguistic ideas (also) to investigate the concepts of “post-truth” and fake news. As more specific objectives, this work seeks: (i) a conceptual research in which the idea of fake news is related to classic rhetoric; (ii) an understanding of the mechanisms of language functioning in the production of fake news; (iii) an analysis that takes into account the power devices and their use for the control and dissemination of fake news. Understanding that the field of the history of linguistic ideas is, within language studies, an area whose research already presupposes an open and direct dialogue with other branches of knowledge, this study is already born transdisciplinary, as it is a linguistic research that puts at stake the history, contemporary society and also problematize issues of computer science. I defend the thesis that, in the contemporary world, there is a cynicism and an ultra-narcissism that resignify the logic of true / false discourse - producing “<em>self-made news</em>” for internet users.</p>}, number={4}, journal={Cadernos de Linguística}, author={El-Jaick, Ana Paula}, year={2021}, month={Feb.}, pages={01–13} }
