We present findings from current studies on Brazilian Portuguese which show the grammatical functioning of embodied resources: the way body information in metacommunicative actions displayed in cultural conceptualisations in an intercultural interaction work in meaning making (NASCIMENTO, 2020), the systematicity and variability of emblematic gestures in Brazilian Portuguese (OLIVEIRA, 2020) and the processing cues of linguistic variation from facial expressions (FREITAG et al., 2020). We emphasise the need of changes in methodological procedures traditionally adopted in descriptive linguistics by taking a conception of language functions close to the one proposed by Bühler (2011 [1934]), which embraces human expressions in the linguistic expression domain.

ER -
