Privacy Statement

Cadernos de Linguística is committed to protecting the privacy of its users. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of data collected and how they are used when interacting with our platform, which operates on the Open Journal Systems (OJS). The journal complies with Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (Lei nº 13.709/2018 – LGPD) and adheres to international best practices in scholarly publishing.

1. General Principles

All data collected by the journal are used solely for academic and operational purposes related to manuscript submission, peer review, editing, scholarly communication, and interaction with the academic community. No personal data are collected or shared for commercial purposes.

2. Site Access and Browsing

When browsing the site, certain non-identifiable information may be collected automatically to improve user experience and generate editorial statistics. This includes:

  • Type of device and browser
  • Country of origin
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Search terms used via external search engines

This data is collected via cookies, as detailed below:

2.1 Essential Cookies

Required for the basic functioning of the site, including secure login and internal navigation.

2.2 Functional Cookies

Store user preferences such as language, layout, and session settings.

2.3 Performance and Analytics Cookies

Used to collect aggregated data via tools such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console. This information does not identify users individually.

3. Registered User Data

Registration is required only for users who wish to submit or edit manuscripts, or to serve as reviewers or editors. The following data may be collected:

3.1 Required Information

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Username and password
  • Institutional affiliation
  • ORCID iD and/or Lattes CV (optional)
  • Country and preferred language

3.2 Optional Information

Additional academic information, such as biography, mailing address, signature, and other relevant data may be provided voluntarily.

All data are securely stored within the OJS system and used exclusively for editorial purposes and communication among authors, reviewers, and editors.

4. Newsletter via Substack

All registered users automatically agree to receive the journal’s newsletter via Substack, which includes updates on new publications, open calls, and editorial initiatives. Users may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the emails or by managing their preferences directly in the Substack platform.

5. Publication and Dissemination

When an article is published, the following information is made publicly available, in accordance with open science practices:

  • Full names of all authors and co-authors
  • Institutional affiliations
  • ORCID iDs (if provided)
  • Email address of all authors and co-authors

All articles and metadata are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits broad dissemination provided authorship and the original source are properly credited.

5.1 Dissemination to Indexes and Platforms

The journal may share article metadata (such as author names, affiliations, titles, and DOIs) with indexing services, academic repositories, and scholarly communication platforms to increase the visibility of published research.

5.2 Publication of Peer Review Materials

By accepting their roles, authors, handling editors, and reviewers agree to the journal’s open access policies. This includes the publication, alongside the article, of the editorial decision letter, signed peer reviews, and authors’ responses to reviewer comments. These materials form part of the scholarly record and contribute to transparency in the editorial process.

In addition, selected excerpts from these materials — as well as from the articles themselves — may be shared through the journal’s official social media channels to promote published research, foster academic dialogue, and recognize the contributions of editors, reviewers, and authors.

6. Data Sharing and Storage

User data are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties beyond the purposes outlined in this policy. All information is stored on secure servers and protected using up-to-date security protocols.

7. User Rights

In accordance with the LGPD, users have the right to:

  • Access and update their personal data
  • Request the deletion of their account and personal data (unless retention is required by law)
  • Withdraw previously given consent

8. Changes to the Privacy Policy

This policy may be updated periodically. The most recent version will always be available on the journal’s website. In the case of significant changes, registered users will be notified by email.
