Preserving Academic Knowledge for the Long Haul: Cadernos de Linguística Joins Forces with PKP Preservation Network (PN)

In the ever-evolving landscape of academic publishing, ensuring the longevity of scholarly content is paramount. Cadernos de Linguística is proud to take a significant step towards safeguarding its scholarly record. We are excited to announce that Cadernos de Linguística is now utilizing the cutting-edge PKP Preservation Network (PN) to ensure the permanent preservation of our publications.

Why Preservation Matters

The world of academic journals, including open-access journals like ours, can be a dynamic one. Journals come and go, and in the digital age, the risk of disappearing from the internet is very real. This poses a challenge for researchers, scholars, and the broader academic community who rely on access to valuable research.

Preservation isn't just about saving files; it's about ensuring that knowledge remains accessible for generations to come.

The Power of LOCKSS and CLOCKSS Technologies

To bolster our preservation efforts, Cadernos de Linguística has implemented two robust technologies: LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS). These technologies work together to ensure that multiple copies of our journal's content are distributed across various locations. This decentralized approach significantly enhances the resilience of our preservation strategy.

Introducing PKP Preservation Network (PN)

Our commitment to long-term accessibility has led us to embrace the PKP Preservation Network (PN), a powerful preservation service built on LOCKSS software. By joining PKP PN, we are proactively taking steps to guarantee that all our publications will be preserved indefinitely.

PKP PN operates as a "dark archive," meaning that the preserved content is not immediately accessible to end-users. Access becomes available only after a "trigger event." This ensures that our content remains safe and sound until it's needed.

Addressing the Challenge of Vanishing Journals

The issue of vanishing journals, especially in the humanities, has been a growing concern in the academic community. To combat this challenge, Cadernos de Linguística is proud to support Project JASPER (JournAlS are Preserved forevER). This initiative is dedicated to preventing the disappearance of high-value research resources and closing the gap in preservation coverage, particularly in fields like linguistics.

Our Commitment to the Future

At Cadernos de Linguística, we are unwavering in our commitment to long-term accessibility. Our partnership with PKP PN, along with the strength of LOCKSS and CLOCKSS technologies, ensures that our publications will remain accessible for generations to come.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our readers, authors, and contributors for your continued support. Together, we are securing the future of linguistic scholarship.

Stay tuned for more updates on our preservation efforts and the exciting developments happening at Cadernos de Linguística!
