We are pleased to invite submissions for a forthcoming theme issue on "Sharing Linguistic Data." This special issue aims to advance the discourse on the sharing, reuse, and preservation of linguistic data, in alignment with the principles of the Open Science movement. This initiative seeks to familiarize the scientific community with essential protocols and procedures, including data management plans, metadata, and usage licenses, thereby fostering a culture of transparency and reproducibility in linguistic research.
BackgroundThe theme of "Linguistic Data" was prominently featured at the Abralin em Cena 17 event, held from June 26-28, 2023. The event transcended traditional empirical and descriptive approaches, engendering critical discussions on data storage, ethical and legal considerations, patrimonialization, and safeguarding. These discussions were conducted in synergy with other fields, such as Digital Humanities, which are also grappling with these important issues.
Scope and TopicsWe welcome submissions that engage with the theme of sharing linguistic data, including but not limited to the following topics:
- Reuse Investigations: Empirical studies utilizing reused linguistic data from open repositories.
- Data Availability Tutorials: Methodological guides on the dissemination of linguistic data derived from individual or collective research projects.
- Reproduction Protocols: Detailed protocols for the replication of linguistic data collection methods.
- Data Management Plans: Comprehensive and reproducible data management plans.
- Metadata for Data Sharing: Development and implementation of metadata standards for the effective sharing of linguistic data.
- Linguistic Data and Patrimonialization: Exploration of the preservation and heritage aspects of linguistic data.
- Ethical and Legal Considerations: Examination of the ethical and legal implications associated with the sharing and availability of linguistic data in open repositories.
Authors are encouraged to submit their contributions to open repositories, such as OSF, and to include the following components:
- Linguistic data sets
- Data analysis scripts
- Pre-registered analysis plans
- Preprints
This approach aims to cultivate a collaborative and reproducible research environment, thereby maximizing the impact of linguistic data within the scholarly community.
