Co-Reviewer Policy

Co-Review Process

Co-review is a collaborative effort that allows individuals to jointly review a manuscript, ensuring that everyone receives recognition for their contribution. Cad_Lin promotes co-review as an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain experience in peer review while working alongside more experienced colleagues. Co-reviewers are researchers in training or expert technicians who evaluate a paper in collaboration with the invited reviewer for the editorial process. This is an opportunity for experience and learning. The co-review process aims to achieve the following objectives::

  1. Develop Competence in Peer Review: Through co-review, early-career researchers and community members unfamiliar with the peer review process can enhance their skills in this area through constructive collaboration.
  2. Recognize the Work of Co-Reviewers: Co-reviewers receive a certificate in recognition of their valuable contribution to the joint review.
  3. Promote Diversity and Inclusion: Through co-review, we encourage the participation of early-career researchers from underrepresented communities in research, promoting diversity and inclusion in the academic field.

How It Works

Cad_Lin encourages its reviewers to invite co-reviewers to the editorial work. If you choose to have a co-reviewer, the invited reviewer should follow these steps:

  1. Familiarize yourself with our Co-Review Policy: It is essential to agree with our co-review policy to proceed.
  2. Invite potential co-reviewers and obtain consent before proceeding.
  3. After accepting the review invitation, start a new conversation at the bottom of the article review page. Name the conversation "Co-Review" and provide the following contact details for the colleague(s) with whom you plan to collaborate: name, email, affiliation, and Orcid-ID. Be sure to include Cad_Lin as the message recipient
  4. Upon completion of the collaborative review process, both you and your co-reviewer(s) will receive a recognition certificate via email.

Ethics and Guidelines

All co-reviewers must strictly adhere to the guidelines set by Cad_Lin for reviewers, which includes compliance with ethical peer review guidelines and relevant standards, such as COPE's Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.

Support and Mentoring

For more experienced researchers conducting co-reviews with early-career colleagues, we encourage providing support throughout the review process. Here are some tips to ensure effective co-review:

  • Ensure that your co-reviewer fully comprehends the established expectations.
  • Assist them in setting a timeline to ensure timely review completion.
  • Allocate sufficient time for your co-reviewer to complete their review portion.
  • Review and discuss their recommendations before submission.
  • Encourage co-reviewers to seek formal peer review training if necessary for their professional development.
