Governance, Ownership and Roles

Cadernos de Linguística is owned by the Brazilian Linguistics Association (Abralin). (i) Editor(s)-in-Chief: The Editor(s)-in-Chief oversee the editorial process, ensuring alignment with the journal’s standards. They are members of the Editorial Board and serve 8-year terms.
(ii) Editorial Board: Consisting of 10 members, excluding the Editor(s)-in-Chief, the board sets editorial policies and ensures that ethical guidelines are followed. Members serve 4-year terms and are appointed by Abralin’s Executive Committee.
(iii) Associate Editors: Responsible for managing the day-to-day peer-review process, assigning reviewers, and making decisions on manuscript acceptance in collaboration with the Editor(s)-in-Chief.
(iv) Technical Support: Abralin funds technical support to ensure the smooth operation of the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. This includes managing the submission system, maintaining the website, and providing technical assistance to authors and reviewers.
(v) Publishing Team: A dedicated publishing team prepares articles for publication, manages correspondence with authors, and oversees the technical and administrative aspects of the journal.

Finances

The journal is fully funded and managed by Abralin, with financial support coming from membership dues and research grants. The main financial responsibilities include:

(a) No Submission Fees: The journal does not charge any fees for submission or publication, aligning with its commitment to democratizing access to linguistic research.
(b) Technical Support Costs: Abralin directly funds the technical support needed to maintain the journal’s online platform, ensuring functionality and accessibility. This includes paying the salaries of technical staff who manage day-to-day operations.
(c) Editorial Support: While editorial roles are honorary, Abralin covers operational expenses, such as platform hosting, domain costs, and DOI registration for all articles.
(d) Promotional Activities: The journal allocates funds to digital and printed promotional materials to increase its visibility at events and through social media.
(e) Long-Term Sustainability: Abralin ensures the journal’s sustainability by providing funds for long-term activities, such as archiving and ensuring continued access to its content.

The Abralin Executive Committee approves the journal’s annual budget, covering expenses related to technical support, platform maintenance, and promotional efforts.
