Call for Papers
We invite submissions for a Special Issue of Cadernos de Linguística dedicated to Reproducibility in Linguistic Research. This thematic issue aims to bring together studies that critically examine or implement reproducible practices in linguistics, providing concrete examples and fostering methodological rigor, transparency, and open science.
Scope and FocusThe Special Issue will feature contributions addressing one or more of the following four dimensions of reproducibility:
-
Reproducibility of analysis – obtaining the same results from the same dataset using the same methods.
-
Reproducibility of methods – repeating data collection and analysis procedures with a new sample.
-
Reproducibility of results (replicability) – obtaining similar results in a new study conducted under comparable conditions.
-
Reproducibility of inference – reaching the same conclusions based on the same results.
We particularly encourage submissions developed collectively by research groups, laboratories, or teams. One possible approach is to select a published study considered important in the group’s area of expertise — preferably one frequently cited or used in the group’s own research — and attempt a reproducibility study. This may involve replication of methods, re-analysis of shared data, or new empirical testing with a compatible design.
Submission Format: Registered ReportsTo ensure methodological rigor and transparency, this Special Issue will follow the Registered Reports format, with two publication stages:
Stage 1 – Registered Report Protocol (RRP)
Authors submit a detailed methodological plan including objectives, hypotheses, methods, and analysis criteria before any data collection begins. Submissions will undergo peer review, and approved protocols will be published in the journal.
Stage 2 – Registered Report Results (RRR)
After executing the study according to the approved protocol, authors submit the final report with results and discussion. This second article will be linked to the original protocol and published regardless of outcome, provided the study adheres to the pre-approved plan.
Important: No data collection may begin before Stage 1 approval and publication.
Timeline-
October 31, 2025 – Deadline for Stage 1 (Registered Report Protocol) submissions.
-
Up to 6 months after Stage 1 publication – Deadline for Stage 2 (Registered Report Results) submissions.
Cadernos de Linguística is the only linguistics journal affiliated with the Brazilian Reproducibility Network, reinforcing our commitment to robust, transparent, and open research practices. This Special Issue aims to expand the discussion on methodological rigor in linguistics and to provide concrete, peer-reviewed examples of reproducible research in the field.
