Title of the Theme Issue
Cognitive Linguistics in the Real World: Understanding Social Processes Mediated by Language
Guest Editors

Jan Edson Rodrigues Leite (UFPB)
Scope of the Call
This thematic issue of Cadernos de Linguística invites submissions of studies that investigate how figurative resources of language—such as metaphors, metonymies, frames, image schemas, categorization, and idealized cognitive models—operate in the construction of discourses and narratives about contemporary social and political issues.
The proposal seeks to bring together research that, from the theoretical and methodological perspective of Cognitive Linguistics, analyzes aspects that are central to understanding language in use and/or in historically situated contexts. It is based on the premise that the cognitive mechanisms that structure language not only organize communication but also actively shape how we perceive, interpret, and position ourselves in relation to issues such as social inequalities, political conflicts, struggles for rights, and disputes for recognition.
By emphasizing the interface between language, cognition, and society, this issue aims both to foster theoretical and empirical reflections within the Cognitive Linguistics framework and to contribute to the strengthening of a critical approach in the field, one focused on the analysis of social processes mediated by language.
